Questions about the report

Why not write it ourselves?

You may. ITI publishes the template for anyone to use, and neither ITI nor GSA asks for a third party. Plenty of vendors fill it in themselves. A third party adds one thing: someone who did not build the product uses it with a keyboard and a screen reader and writes down what happens, row by row. A reviewer can see from the remarks that the flows were used. If your customer accepts a self-written report and someone on your team can test with NVDA, you may not need me.

Is this a certificate?

No. An ACR is your own statement about your product, and you publish it under your name. There is no certificate for this and I cannot give you one. The report says what was tested, how, on which date, and what was found.

Do you test native apps on real devices?

Yes, when they are on the agreed list. I use an iPhone with VoiceOver and an Android phone with TalkBack. Each app screen or flow counts toward the 15. WCAG was written for web content, so for a native app the report applies it through W3C's WCAG2ICT guidance and says so. If an app needs its own report, ask first and I will reply with a fixed price in writing.

Do you hold a credential?

No. I am a software tester. I hold no IAAP certificate and no DHS Trusted Tester certificate today. I may take the DHS Trusted Tester course. If I do and I pass, the certificate number will go on this page. I know of no US rule that requires a credential for an ACR, but some buyers prefer one. If your customer requires a named credential, I am not the right person yet. What you can check is the work: each remark names a screen and what happens, so your team can repeat it.

Do you have insurance?

No, not at this stage. The terms cap my liability at the fee. If your customer requires professional indemnity insurance from the tester, I am not the right person yet.

Why no calls?

I work in writing. Scope, price and date all fit in an email, and you keep a record of what was agreed. Send me the request you received and I will reply with scope, price and a date.

What if the report is not what you expected?

You read it before you pay. Tell me in writing what does not match the terms and I will correct it. The levels and remarks say what I found. I do not change a finding to make a row look better.
